Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of lidocaine ointment laryngeal mask pretreatment on hemodynamic stability and upper airway secretions in elderly patients undergoing general anesthesia. Methods A total of 80 eighty elderly patients who underwent surgical treatment at Guangzhou Huadu District People’s Hospital from August 2023 to June 2025 were enrolled. According to different anesthesia methods, the patients were divided into a conventional group (n=39) and an observation group (n=41). The hemodynamic stability, upper airway secretions, and stress response of the two groups were compared. Results The systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and heart rate (HR) in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the conventional group at T1 and T2, with statistically significant differences between the groups (t=3.930, 2.271, 2.983, 2.885, 2.224, 3.632; all P<0.05). There was no significant difference in salivary volume measured 30 minutes before administration between the two groups (t=1.369, P>0.05); At the time of laryngeal mask removal, the salivary volume in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the conventional group, with a statistically significant difference between the groups (t=2.965, P<0.05). At T1 and T3, the levels of epinephrine and norepinephrine in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the conventional group, with statistically significant differences between the groups (t=13.276, 2.211, 5.219, 4.060; all P<0.05).Conclusion Lidocaine ointment laryngeal mask airway pretreatment helps maintain hemodynamic stability in the elderly patients undergoing general anesthesia, effectively reduce upper airway secretions, and alleviate the stress response, demonstrating certain clinical application value.
